Warrington Borough Council has been awarded funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to research the stories of Warrington’s wire industries from the 18th and 19th centuries up to the present day.

The project will focus on collecting oral histories, engaging a vast range of new audiences and sparking renewed interest in Warrington’s industrial past amongst the community.

We would like people who have personal or family connections with Warrington’s wire industries, past and present, to be a part of our project.

You can get involved by either:

  • Drop in to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery (the WREN Gallery), on Saturday 22 February between 11am - 3pm. The team will be on hand to meet visitors, and tea and coffee will be available;
  • Visit Warrington Museum’s Object Enquiry Service: any Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm and ask to speak to the collections team; or
  • Email heritageprojects@warrington.gov.uk to tell us your stories, or to let us know that you have something to share – we can arrange for any items to be collected at a future date.

Any documents or photos that you want to keep can be scanned at the museum with your permission.

As part of the project, a team of trained volunteers will be conducting interviews to collect oral histories, which will be recorded as part of Warrington Museum’s permanent archives. If you would like to be interviewed and have an interesting story, please use one of the options above to get involved.
