About us

HM Coroners are independent judicial officers, Judges, who are responsible for investigating violent, unnatural or unexplained deaths. Their role is to establish who died, how, when and where. Coroners have a duty to investigate the death and, if necessary, to hold an inquest hearing in court. To support this important judicial function HM Senior Coroner has a team of support staff including Coroners Officers and admin support.

The role

We are looking for an exceptional candidate with excellent proven leadership, organisational, management and efficiency skills, as well as experience of exercising sound judgement and communicating effectively.

In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Coroner to ensure value for money, performance and financial efficiencies. Collaborative working with the Senior Coroner, Coronial team, Cheshire Police and other stakeholders is essential.

The Business Support Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the administrative team and effective running of the service, combined with a responsibility for premises management of the Coroners building. Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are important.

The successful candidates will have access to the full range of training and development opportunities in line with Warrington Borough Councils training and development programme. In addition to any specialist training, as directed by HM Senior Coroner, to support development in the role.

The role is full time and based within the Cheshire Coroners Court building, Museum Street, Warrington. The service operates Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm and by the nature of the role there is a predominant need for office working, although some flexibility in relation to occasional hybrid working may be possible, by prior agreement with HM Senior Coroner and strictly subject to service need.
