The role
Warrington Borough Council is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated Highway & Street Works Inspector who either currently has the appropriate skills, qualifications or is willing to undertake training to fulfil this role.
Working alongside experienced staff the post holder will liaise with various stakeholders, including Council Officers, Councillors, Members of the Public, Contractors, Utility Companies, Developers and Third Parties, engaged in highway related activities to ensure the seamless delivery of the service.
As a highway and street works inspector your primary purpose will be to ensure that the councils’ highway is maintained in a safe and useable condition. To carry out highway safety inspections of the highway, record condition and instruct any necessary maintenance work. You will also respond to requests for services from Councillors and members of the public in a timely manner and issue any maintenance work as required.
As a highways and Street Works inspector you will be responsible for the inspections of the council’s highway network and the co-ordination and management of street works activities carried out by the council and statutory undertakers (Utilities) on the public highway in accordance with The Highways Act 1980, the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), and the Traffic Management Act (TMA). In addition, you will administer and enforce many other areas of highway law related to occupation, interference and safety of the public highway
What's needed?
We are looking for someone who has experience in highway safety inspections and street works or is willing to undertake training.
Has the drive to develop and/or experience in highway safety inspections and street works and be able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering high quality customer focused services to an agreed standard throughout the borough. Is an effective communicator, confident to engage at all levels, with the public, Council staff, contractors and partners and support the management team as necessary.
Has well developed numeracy skills, knowledge of highway construction materials and methods of application or is willing to undertake training.
Has excellent organisational skills and is a good team worker who can motivate and lead by example.
Has the ability to set and work to prescribed deadlines and targets to meet the requirements of the Council’s Highway Inspection Code of Practice and The Warrington Borough Council Permit Scheme.
Has a flexible approach and is able to prioritise workloads to meet service demands,
