The annual event, at Birchwood Forest Park, always proves to be popular with people from Warrington and beyond - and this year is set to be no exception, with some first-class entertainment lined up.
A colourful ‘Butterflies, Bees, and Bugs’ themed procession around the park led by Batida Rio Samba Band marks the start of the festivities at 12.40pm. Next is the fancy dress competition judging and prize-giving, followed by the official event opening at 1.00pm.
The afternoon's arena acts include Bob Hogg’s Sheep Dog Display, Wild Wings Birds of Prey, and local acts such as Northern Starr Dance.
There will also be a fun dog show running throughout the afternoon, a large funfair and over 30 charity, craft and commercial stalls to visit.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. Other attractions this year include a range of food outlets, Zoo 2 U Animals, a climbing wall and rodeo sheep, magic shows, garden games, donkey rides and local history displays.
There will also be the chance to join a range of workshops, including drumming, craft and circus skills. Most of the activities are free of charge so there will be lots to do for the whole family!
Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for leisure and communities, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “Birchwood Carnival is always a huge hit in the community, bringing large crowds to the Forest Park to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family.
“The organisers have been working as hard as ever to make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There will be plenty to see and do – from music, dance and processions, to animal shows, a funfair, local history displays and much, much more. Make sure you join us for what is sure to be another fantastic carnival.”
Now in its 39th year, Birchwood Carnival is organised and run by Warrington Borough Council’s Ranger Service and Birchwood Carnival Committee with funding from Birchwood Town Council, Warrington Borough Council’s Community Initiative Fund, Sellafield Ltd, Your Housing Group, Birchwood Park, Birchwood Shopping Centre, Orano, The Friends of Birchwood Forest Park and ASDA Birchwood. This year’s event takes place on the main playing fields at Birchwood Forest Park on Sunday 12th June from 12.00 Noon.
