Mr Biggin, who served for 16 years as a borough councillor across Grappenhall and Thelwall and also served as Warrington’s 128th Mayor during 2011/12, stepped down as a Liberal Democrat borough councillor earlier this year and has since been recognised for his exemplary dedication to the people of Warrington, at an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council on Monday 5 December.
The position of Honorary Alderman is a ceremonial title which is open to any person who, in the eyes of the council, has given eminent service to the area in a public position. With this in mind, the motion to bestow the Honorary Alderman title upon Mr Biggin was unanimously approved.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “Mike spent a number of years supporting his communities and was a truly committed councillor.
“I always enjoyed working alongside Mike and engaging in good debate and discussion with him. He was a hard-working, welcoming, respectful councillor and a real asset to both the council and the people he represented.
“I will also remember his lively and colourful mayoral year!
“I valued Mike’s input and contributions he made during his tenure as borough councillor and we will miss him as he leaves this role at the council. Being recognised as Honorary Alderman is something Mike definitely deserves.”
