The group collected over 100 bags of litter, a toilet, mattress, several car tyres and the front of a car as they worked from the B&Q car park into Delph Lane onto Mill Lane and finishing in Watery Lane.

Bob Towers, a Winwick Litter Network coordinator said: “It was great to work with the council to enable the volunteers to clear the waste in a safe way – what a way to start the Great British Spring Clean fortnight as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign.”

Cllr Cathy Mitchell, Deputy Council Leader said: “It was fantastic to join the volunteers and council officers in helping to clear this local area. It is so sad that individuals think it is appropriate to throw their rubbish onto the verges and pavements, and I would urge everyone to take their litter home. The work of the Winwick volunteers and their colleagues across Warrington really helps in trying to improve the look of the local environment.“

Cllr Tony Higgins, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Community said: “The Litter Networks has been an incredible force for good in our borough, bringing people together and helping keep the community clean and tidy.

“Thank you to all the volunteers in clearing this particular spot in Warrington. The work of the volunteers both here in Winwick and across the Warrington footprint is a real help in trying to reduce the level of visible litter and improve the look of the town. I would like to thank all those who came out to support with the pick for their help and support”.

Road closures were put in place and whilst the volunteers litter picked the council cleaned the gullies.
