Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has been congratulated by the Mayor of Warrington for receiving a prestigious rugby league honour.

Sam has officially been inducted into the National Rugby League (NRL) Hall of Fame which recognises pioneer record breakers and game changes. He is one of 11 iconic players inducted in the class of 2024. 

Appointed as the Wolves head coach in August 2023, Sam (35) has enjoyed a decorated career winning numerous international honours for England in both rugby league and union as well as becoming an NRL champion with South Sydney Rabbiohs. He becomes the first ever English international to be part of the NRL Hall of Fame.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Wendy Johnson said: “I’d like to congratulate Sam for this richly deserved accolade, it is testament to his incredible contribution to the game which puts him among the greatest players of his generation. 

“Sam has started the latest chapter in his career – as head coach of the Wolves – superbly, leading the team to the Challenge Cup final and helping the team progress into title contenders. We are all very proud of him for this latest achievement.”
