Stoptober is back, calling on smokers in Warrington to join the 2.5 million others across the country who have made a quit attempt with the campaign previously.

Warrington is joining the month-long national stop smoking campaign with support and advice from LiveWire’s SmokeFree team.

Smokers are being urged to kick the habit this ‘Stoptober’ – with the team dropping in to a range of community venues to engage with people of all ages – from youth groups and university students to older people.  When you stop smoking good things start to happen – quitting will allow you to start moving better, breathe more easily and give you more money to spend.

The LiveWire Smokefree team will be attending The Mental health Marketplace event at Chester University, Time Square, Thursday 10 October, 12pm – 4pm. Everyone is invited to drop in, meet the team and get a range of advice about how to stop smoking, together with general lifestyle improvement.

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care, said: “It’s never too late to quit smoking. For those ready to quit, LiveWire’s Smokefree team promises to support every step of the way. With the right level of support, making this change could be one of the best things you’ll ever do for your health.

“Initiatives like Stoptober play a major role in providing support, education and motivation for people who have been thinking about giving up.

“There’s plenty on offer from advice on quitting, to support with improving your health and lifestyle, meaning October is the perfect time to begin your smoke-free future.”

Smoking remains the largest cause of preventable death in England, and LiveWire’s stop smoking service provides free specialist stop smoking support and advice to people in the Warrington area.

The team also supports workplaces in the borough with guidance and support to make their organisation smoke-free.

LiveWire is using this Stoptober to raise awareness of the stop smoking support and advice they offer to everyone, including:

  • Face-to-face appointments (one to one consultations/drop-in clinics)
  • Telephone consultations
  • Support for those in hospital
  • Workplace events and sessions
