Centre for Cities is a leading think tank dedicated to improving the economies of the UK's largest cities and towns. It focuses on the UK’s 63 largest cities and towns.
The latest Cities Outlook Report shows that Warrington is performing exceptionally well across a number of key indicators when compared to other towns and cities:
- Warrington ranks fourth for the largest percentage increase in house price growth, reinforcing the view that Warrington is a great place to live as well as work and relax.
- Warrington appears fifth in the national rankings for the highest number of new economy firms. The ‘new economy’ means businesses that are at the forefront of new technologies and innovations. This is particularly important for the UK’s overall productivity, and shows that Warrington is one of the leading places for innovation in the country.
- Warrington appears seventh in the rankings for places with the lowest jobless claimant count rate.
- Warrington ranks eighth nationally for both employment rate – at 81% - and the highest number of businesses per 10,000 people, at 396.
Cabinet member for economic development and innovation, Cllr Tom Jennings, said: "The latest Cities Outlook report is impartial proof that Warrington continues to excel economically, attracting new businesses and boasting high employment rates, nurturing innovation and prioritising public safety.
“This success is only achievable through partnerships and the council will continue in that vein to solidify Warrington as a standout performer against our peers.
“While there's always room for improvement, the findings confirm that our town remains a top choice for work, investment and quality of life, and that is something we should all take great pride in."
