Welcome to your new area. It’s important that you settle in well to the local area, so to help make things a little easier we have put this guide together to advise you on all your local transport options and local amenities.

In this guide you will find information on the variety of travel options available to you from your new home or workplace, including information on walking and cycling routes, as well as public transport options. There will also be an opportunity for you to claim a £50 gift voucher.

Get walking

Walking is a great way to improve your health, fitness, wellbeing, sleep patterns and energy levels.

Within a 20-minute walk of your area you can reach a variety of local amenities including shopping, schools and green spaces to spend valuable leisure time. New footpaths will provide direct links to the north, west and south of your area. Walking is a great way to get around, improve your knowledge of the local area and the best thing it’s free!

Making a walk part of your everyday routine can bring lots of benefits to your physical and mental health, as well as help to reduce the amount of traffic on the roads.

Your new area is within walking distance of:

On your bike!

Cycling is a quick, cheap and fun way of getting about – to work, school and to leisure activities.

It is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine and helps improve your health and wellbeing. If you’ve not been on a bike for a while, we can help you get back into the saddle.

There are traffic-free cycle routes around and at Airlift Hill. There is a shared-use cycle path around M62 J8, which continues north to Burtonwood. Cycle crossing facilities are also available on Lingley Green Avenue and M62 J8.

Free cycle training

We can arrange free cycle training to help you build your confidence. This is delivered on a one-to-one or small group basis and can be tailored to meet your specific needs.

There are free weekly bike rides at different locations around Warrington.

Bike maintenance

Look out for free bike maintenance sessions which will be run in your area each year. The events will allow our mechanics to service your bike free of charge, checking the condition, undertaking work to improve the basic safety of your bike and providing advice relating to future improvements and work on your bike. The events will be promoted locally so keep an eye out for further information about them.

Help purchasing a bike

Each household/employee is entitled to claim a free £50 voucher to be redeemed at Halfords. This can be used towards purchasing a new bike, cycle repairs or cycling accessories. Simply complete this short survey to get your voucher.

Some employers offer a Cycle2Work scheme, which allows you to purchase bikes tax free and pay for the bike monthly through a salary sacrifice scheme. Contact your company’s human resource department to find out if your company offers this scheme and to find out more information.

Parking and locker facilities

Cycle parking spaces are available at various locations in your local area. These include:

  • Retail area around Lidl, Costa and McDonalds
  • Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub
  • Warrington West Railway station
  • Sainsburys and the medical centre at Chapelford
  • Skymaster Public House
  • ASDA Westbrook
  • Next at Gemini Retail Park
Bus

For travel further afield, it’s easy to travel with Warrington’s Own Buses

Bus routes 13, 14, 15, and 17 operate close to you, and you can find times, routes and ticket information of these routes below.

MD Bus & Coach operate routes B29, 31A and 33, and timetables can be found by visiting Local Bus Service | Md Bus And Coach Ltd

The main bus operator in Warrington is Warrington’s Own Buses. You can find times, routes and ticket information on their website:

As a resident of this development, you can apply for a “taster ticket” which allows you free / discounted travel by bus up to a value of £50. The taster ticket will allow you try travelling by bus and see how you find it. You can apply for one of either a cycle, bus or car club voucher per household

Please contact travelwarrington@warrington.gov.uk for more information.  You will also need to download the Touch and Go Warrington app warringtonsownbuses.co.uk/touch-go onto your phone as the voucher value will be uploaded onto this.

The Touch and Go Warrington app enables you to plan your journey, check timetables, get a live departure board for your stop, and enables you to see where your bus is on the map. You can also buy tickets in advance on the app using Apple Pay, Google Pay or a credit / debit card.

A Touch and Go Smartcard is also available which allows you to pre-load with the ticket of your choice. Both the smartcard and app are accepted on all Warrington's Own Buses services. You can also pay by contactless card or cash on the bus if you would prefer.

Rail

There are seven railway stations in Warrington and two main railway lines taking you east or west, and north or south.

Warrington West station is the closest station (1.5 miles from Omega) with regular services to Liverpool and Manchester. The station is fully accessible with lifts, and there is free cycle parking available. There is also a 250-space car park which costs £1 per 24 hours.

Warrington Bank Quay station offers regular services to London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, Preston, Wigan, Chester and Llandudno.

Car club and Electric vehicles

Car sharing

If you’re travelling from further away, why not consider reducing your travel costs by sharing your lift? It will save you money, saves you the hassle of finding a car parking space when you arrive, and allows you to meet new friends.

Liftshare provide a car sharing service liftshare.com/uk which enables you to search for others making a similar journey and arrange to share your journey. Registering and searching for partners is free of charge and won’t impact on your car insurance. You don’t have to reciprocate the journey, instead a mileage cost can be charged to cover the costs of the additional passenger.

Electric vehicle charging facilities are available at the following locations:

  • Gemini Retail Park – Marks and Spencer & Ikea
  • Apollo Retail Park – Travelodge, Harvester & Skymaster pub
  • Warrington West Station
  • Lidl, McDonalds, Costa Omega car park
  • Westbrook Shopping Centre

Car club

Car club vehicles are currently available within Time Square multi-storey car park to use for journeys which need to be undertaken by car.  Two vehicles are located on the ground floor and can be rented on an hourly or daily basis. The vehicles are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The car club scheme is run by Co-Wheels and vehicles can be booked online. As a resident or employees of this development, you are entitled to free membership and £20 credit to the Warrington Car Club.

Tickets/vouchers are non-transferable and no cash alternative will be supplied.
