We feel the proposed local plan is unsound with no justification for the predicted growth and no need to take green belt land which would be gone for ever.
The town centre is becoming derelict and the council should be looking at redevelopment of the brownfield sites and town centre. The redevelopment of the market and time square is let down by the state of Bridge Street. Much of the infrastructure for bus and rail links into the town are already there so redevelopment of the town centre would provide employment opportunities and affordable housing on land already developed instead of using valuable green belt land. Access to the town from the south side of Warrington is restricted by the 2 water courses, Manchester Ship Canal and Bridgewater Canal therefore any development would involve a greater experience and disruption in providing infrastructure to deal with the volume of traffic caused by the proposed development. There is no need to destroy green belt land when there is adequate brownfield sites already available to the council for redevelopment and without selling out the easy option of desirable green field to the highest bidders
