The effect on traffic flow and congestion cannot be underestimated. It takes a relatively small traffic jam on the motorway network, usually around the m6, Thelwall Viaduct, for Warrington to grind to a halt. Circumstances such as these cannot be planned for or managed. The effect on air pollution is huge. What effect building so many houses will have on day to day lives I cannot imagine. I try to use my bicycle when venturing into town from Appleton but take my life in my hands every time. Cycle lanes end abruptly leaving no option but to join in with the traffic or use the pavement. Infrastructure such as this must improve before construction takes place. Where are the plans for schools, surgeries, hospitals etc. etc. to cater for new residents let alone all those of us already living here and struggling to get the services we need?
Loss of green spaces, the lungs of our country are to be irretrievably lost More concrete, more flooding, loss of habitat for flora and fauna, and of course land for farming is tragic and unnecessary.
It is vital to use brownfield sites first. Also use of existing buildings to convert into living spaces would revitalise our sadly empty town centre with its many lovely buildings such as the one at Bridge Foot, left empty and neglected for so many years right at the entrance to the town It would e all too easy for developers to use our fields for building and make a tidy profit before moving on. Surely Warrington planners have more imagination than to allow this crime against the environment to take place?
