We object to the building of 15,000 new homes in Warrington by 2038 for the following reasons:
Building 15,000 new homes will add to the already existing traffic pollution and congestion in the town. The Victorian designed road system, with matching infrastructure is already inadequate to deal with the existing volume of traffic. The public transport system is totally inadequate and therefore people have to use their own transport.
The proposed houses will overstretch the existing facilities which struggle to serve the current population. People are already waiting months for treatment and the hospitals are overstretched and understaffed.
An infrastructure should be in place, to include a medical centre, school and shops before any new houses are built. The developments at Stretton and Appleton were planned to have a medical centre and supermarket before the houses were built but this has not happened. People have to use their cars to get to Stockton Heath for shops and doctors. Releasing more green belt for housing will increase these problems not alleviate them. The proximity to the motorway network will create more traffic problems. The houses will not be for local people, who cannot afford them and will encourage people to travel to Liverpool and Manchester for work.
If the pandemic has taught us anything we more than ever need green spaces for our mental health. This development will create a concrete corridor between Liverpool and Manchester as in the U.S.A. Surely we need more green spaces between sprawling urban conurbations for future generations, who will have to live with the consequences of these developments.
