Immediate Green Belt release will divert investment from town centre and brownfield regeneration. Green Belt release should be delayed to review significant changes caused by Brexit, Covid-19 and Climate Emergency. No exceptional circumstances to justify Green Belt release. Previous plan was meant to preserve Green Belt for following 20 years.

Summary of comments
Plan proposes wrong homes in wrong places - fails to deliver affordable housing of mixed tenure with access to essential facilities. To progress plan now is not sound, given Government?s latest comments regarding the protection of the greenbelt and the ending of housing targets.

SEWUE will create further car dependent suburbs, leading to additional congestion/pollution - negatively impacting climate change agenda. Plan lacks provision for mass transport system. Release of Green Belt for this development is unsustainable in the context of the climate emergency. Fails to address overloaded road system in the area - proposed new roads do not address issues. Area lacks social infrastructure to support proposed development. Concern for increased air pollution. Proposal runs contrary to the WBC's own stated goal of preserving distinctive villages.
