The Draft Local Plan is unsound because it will destroy precious greenbelt land which is irreplaceable. There are plenty of brownfield sites which should take precedence. The loss of habitat for wildlife as well as the reduction in the quality of our air is not justified by the extra houses. The huge increase in traffic, as well as lack of infrastructure, mean this is an unsound decision. The required housing numbers are based on 2014 estimates; much higher than more recent ones. This suggests that many of these houses would be unneeded anyway. Finally, our roads are at gridlock already and building yet more houses would only make this even worse.
Having fewer houses built and not building on our irreplaceable greenbelt would be a step in the right direction. Also, if houses do need to be built, having the correct infrastructure in place, such as schools and health centres, would be vital.
