You need planning permission to do certain improvements and building work, you must find out if you need permission before you start.
If you do anything that needs permission but you don't have it, then we can serve you with an enforcement notice. Whether we take this action depends on whether we think the work you have done is unacceptable, harmful or not in the public interest.
Before you make improvements always check if you need planning permission, building regulation approval, or both. If you go ahead without permission or approval, you may end up having to put things back to how they were.
If your application has been refused then try to adjust your plans so that we can come to an agreement. If for some reason we can’t reach an agreement, you can appeal – as long as you do it within a certain time.
